Car FAQ

I’m new. What should be my first modifications?
This is a very controversial issue. Everyone has their own opinions on what should come first. And there’s a lot of modifications that need supporting mods also. Mainly, you hear people saying that you should get intake, headers, and exhaust first. Mostly because they are easy to install and are very inexpensive. But in my opinion, I think that the head work is the first thing that you should get. It’s a supporting mod that supports the intake, headers, exhaust, turbo… practically every mod after that. It’s very inexpensive too, usually around $250 which is even cheaper than most headers and cat-back exhaust systems. It will also increase the potential of your engine overall. Instead of maybe just a 6 horsepower gain with an intake on a stock engine, you might gain an extra 2-3 horsepower off an engine that has had head work done along with the extra power you got off the head work.

What brands should I buy from?
Really, I could tell you who and who not to buy from, but that would be just my opinion. Everyone has their own favorite companies and shops to go to.  Just make sure that the company or store that you are buying from are reputable and the quality of the products are good. It’s up to you if you want to have a brand loyalty. Try to go to companies that are not only reputable, but maybe even specialize in the kind of vehicle you drive.

What are the best parts to buy?
This isn’t the actual question that I’m referring to. When people ask me this question, they are usually referring to a specific part like suspension or intake and for a specific car. The answer that I’m giving is actually one that you should already know. The fact of the matter is, whenever you buy a part, you should do research on it. Say if you were to buy suspension, you should, by all means, buy the best suspension you can for the type of driving/racing you do. But this is where it gets tricky: because the best parts you can buy are mostly going to be adjustable to driver preference. What this means is, when you buy the best full coil-over setup, it’s usually going to be ride height, dampening, and pillow ball mount adjustable. When you buy a really good set of cam gears, they are most likely going to be adjustable too. Because there are so many ways to build a car, you will always run into parts that are adjustable, and if you don’t know how to properly adjust them, you will most likely screw up something important. So before you go and buy something like that, make sure you know what you’re doing.
